A route is a small contract that holds nothing for long. Whatever arrives is divided by basis points, the last share takes the rounding dust, and every wei is accounted for.

Funds sit in the route contract until the next payout. The only way out is the split. Not even the owner can withdraw.
Locked or editable
Lock a route and its split can never change. Editable routes keep every past split on chain as a numbered version.
Every payout, on the record
Each payout stores the amount, the fee, the split version and who called it. The history is read straight from the contract.
No double payouts
A payout empties what is waiting. Amounts held for a destination are set aside and can never be paid out twice.
Refusals never block
If a destination refuses the transfer, its share is credited to it and the rest still pay out. It collects any time.
Fixed, capped fee
The protocol fee is set on each route at creation, can never rise on that route, and is capped at 1% by the contract.
